Meissen Cupid Putti Figurine Sharpening Arrow M Series Mid 19. The Meissen porcelain figure in the form of a Cupid sharpening arrows, the base with crossed sword mark and impressed number markings.
The winged infant is standing at his sharpening wheel and his arrows are bound up at his feet. He is on a gilded scroll form shaped circular base, and his foot on the pedal driven grindstone as he leans over examining his work.
Detailed enamel colours and gilt-lined base. The skin tones and all other coloring is attractive with respect to it's color value.
It measures 6 1/2" tall The base is 4" diameter. Marked on the bottom with Meissen crossed swords with Pummels and inscribed model number M145. Also has the impressed number 181. The crossed swords with Pummels was used between 1850 and 1924.
For its age the figurine is in very good condition. There is minor gold gild loss.There is some minor discoloration on the hands of the figure but overall, it appears to be in very good condition and a handsome piece. This Antique item was part of my family's collection and sat for over 50 years on a shelf next to the finest of Antique Cupids, some of which were dated in the 18th Century. Cupid has always played a role in the celebration of love and lovers.

Famous European porcelain designers loved creating Cupids in different poses, often humorously conceived in some of the finest porcelain painting studios from 1887 to 1949.
