Rare MEISSEN commedia dell'arte harlequin porcelain group The MOCKERY of AGE
A highly rare Meissen group of the "The Mocked Weakling" , or also known as "The Mockery of Age". Kaendler in the early 18thc. Depicts a scene from the commedia dell'arte in which a young gentleman is corrupted by food, luxuries and love. Examples of this porcelain group are in many major museums, and examples almost never turn up for sale. Blue crossed swords on reverse base, incised'763', pressed number'85', painted number'25'. Very heavy and detailed porcelain group measuring 7.5" tall, 8.25" wide. Definitely the finest Meissen I group I've ever had the opportunity to offer. Condition is near perfect with only one flower petal loss and the gentleman's cane reattached near handle. This piece has been examined carefully under UV light and only the one glue spot is detectable, though not to human eye.
